The Kinect’s open-source PC drivers allow coders to have their way with the hardware, and we’ve already begun to see interesting things coming from the community. On NPR last Friday, a company spokesman said that wasn’t an accident: Microsoft left the USB connection open by design. That could be a retcon—or it could be the truth—but it’s nice to hear Microsoft be so welcoming of third-party drivers on the hardware, especially since the announcement was made in such a public forum. And we already have a real-time lightsaber demo… and that’s pretty much wicked.
Over the past year, excitement about QR Codes has grown seemingly on a daily basis. We’ve seen more and more businesses use them to promote their company, products or services. We’ve seen libraries and schools put them to use to help students and parents. We’ve also seen them provide value to specific verticals such as real estate and healthcare.
This video was produced for the module “Digital Studio” at the Bartlett’s Adaptive Architecture and Computation Msc. An Android based phone sends OSC data to a processing sketch, controlling a “Manipulator” that interacts with a cloud of agents and modifies its configuration. The result is finally exported and rendered.
Wow what a beautiful Sunday afternoon here in Toronto : Friday nights “back to the 80’s” charity fundraiser was an absolute success. Derooted studios are ecstatic and proud to be a part of this initiative. Who knew an 80’s theme was just what the doctor ordered. We raised a whopping $150,000 to build the first project, the Artbound Art School in Kenya, Africa. Truly incredible! No seriously. It was off the proverbial hook.
It is often a challenge for artists to make art for a living as well as find ways to continue creating, considering the economy and the current cultural cutbacks cultivating these artists is extremely important. This is a feeling that the members of InPrint Collective share; a sense that artists need to band together to create support groups to ensure the growth of the art community. There are so many personal, political and social commentary messages that are shared through art. It is such an important form of expression and community; it is therefore necessary to promote and nurture this movement.
Everyone has a calling, some for fashion, some for business, some for art, but whatever their calling the most important thing that they can do is to recognize it and grasp a hold of their opportunities to create a future they can be passionate about. The field of photography is one in which it is highly important for an individual to forge their own path and to create their own unique identity. Photography is an art that is spread across such a wide variety of businesses such as fashion, art, advertising, food, travel, interiors, products, people, and the list goes on. In forging their career path a photographer must discover in which field their path lies; they must discover their true passion.
