We knew season 3 was off to a good start when our partner and long time collaborator, photographer Javier Lovera approached us with a collaboration on a BMW and Cundari project for Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival.
Derooted, Toronto’s fresh and full-service creative agency, has entered the rare world of digital mapping with photographer and engineer Javier Lovera. Recently, they embarked on a collaboration for the fourth annual BMW Art Auction, in support of the Air Canada Foundation.
Recently two of my favourite productivity products came together to blow my mind. Moleskine and Evernote have decided to marry their products into a beautiful example of taking an online service and giving it a complimentary relationship with a physical product. The new Evernote Smart Notebook uses the apps new Page Camera feature to capture the page using your smartphone or tablet (current iOS for iPhone and iPad). The feature lets you digitize the page from your book so that you can share and search it via your Evernote account.
This past Sunday, June 3rd I participated in the Ride for Heart in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation for the first time.
I’m an avid cyclist living in Toronto and have always dreamed of riding on the DVP, got close once when I was a kid, there was construction and it was closed off near my house. Sneaked in but was quickly seen and kicked out by a cop. So this year when the opportunity arose I jumped at it. I looked into the details only to find out they had a 75K route which had its top loop at York Mills Rd. (where I had gone in as a kid), it was meant to be!
Who has an industrial espresso machine in their office? Who has teas I couldn’t pronounce just over top of that espresso machine? Who has black glass along the wall that you draw on with white magic markers? It’s none other than only the best internship ever: Derooted Design Agency. In fact, interning almost seems like an understatement for what I did and learned at Derooted; I truly felt like part of the team.
Breaking down the traditional figure-ground dynamic, this collection defines the spectator as the figure, and the installations as the ground integrating them in a cycle. The viewer is allowed to change and define the installation by interacting with it, while the installation changes and affects the response of the viewer by changing his/her environment in real time. This installation is 3Dimensional and uses traditional photographic techniques, life casting, and electronics. The installation features Jillian Vanstone, first Principal dancer at the National Ballet of Canada.
