3D Projection Mapping : Massive Ten . HOTBED 2015

In collaboration with the Art Gallery of Ontario, Derooted was commissioned to take over the main architectural feature of Bailey Court for their annual fundraiser Gala party, Massive Party HOTBED. This year’s theme, “Hotbed” was a huge success and Derooted was there with a massive 3D projection! Guests enjoyed a night filled with food, drinks, dancing and unforgettable art, all inspired by the cultural hotbed of Toronto.

2014 Super Design Internships – Now open

As you read this, a lone rolley chair sits at an empty desk, silently weeping your name. Well, right now its silently weeping “Graphic Design Intern…”, but it’s really sad nonetheless. Don’t let that poor chair be cold for much longer, it’ll make you a bad person.

The Motion Project – Motion / Audio Interaction

I came across this video a few weeks ago and thought it worthy of a mention, stimulating to view and thought I would share it on our blog.

The Motion Project was a collaboration between a lot of clever creative people working together to create a machine that turns motion into music. This is something I touched upon a few years ago at Derooted Labs using different motion sensing open source techniques which proved to be quite effective. This was of course pre-microsoft 360 kinect days when all we had to work with was Processing patches and software such as junxion which is a Mac OSX data routing application that can process ‘sensors’ from any HID (joysticks, mice, touchscreens), MIDI, OSC, Audio, Arduino and Video device using conditional processing and remapping, with MIDI or OSC events as its output. This resulting MIDI or OSC data is then available to any audio or music software that runs on that Mac or can be send to external MIDI/OSC devices.

My 2012 Ride for Heart

This past Sunday, June 3rd I participated in the Ride for Heart in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation for the first time.
I’m an avid cyclist living in Toronto and have always dreamed of riding on the DVP, got close once when I was a kid, there was construction and it was closed off near my house. Sneaked in but was quickly seen and kicked out by a cop. So this year when the opportunity arose I jumped at it. I looked into the details only to find out they had a 75K route which had its top loop at York Mills Rd. (where I had gone in as a kid), it was meant to be!

Board Game Love

Today marks my first week at Derooted and I figured I should take this time to tell you about one of my passions: board games. I know it sounds pretty nerdy but it’s something that I truly enjoy playing especially when I meet up with a bunch of like minded friends. Last month, my friends and I trekked down to the board game mecca, Snakes and Lattes, where we spent around three hours playing games. For someone who has well over forty board and card games at home, this was truly an amazing experience.
