l though it would be fun to blog about last night’s hockey game and our current overwhelming and deserved Canadian pride; it is now time to get back to my daily reality. Last week, while researching facts about tea for our client over at Tea Market, I stumbled across some very interesting and potentially LIFE-CHANGING facts. If you don’t already drink tea, you may feel inclined to after you read my post – which is my intention anyway.
In the last couple of years, healthy lifestyle options have become an international obsession. Being active and eating right are two ways to achieve this; but did you know that tea has been proven to help you in your quest for an Olympian physique? Typically, most will side with coffee when they are looking for a quick pick-me-up, but while coffee may give you a fast lift, it will also give you a quick and sharp decline in your energy. Tea is the better choice. Green tea raises metabolic rates, speeds up fat oxidation and improves insulin sensitivity. Oolong tea also speeds calorie burning. Tea can even reduce your stress by lowering the level of the stress hormone cortisol. Overall, tea contains less caffeine but keeps a consistent energy boost allowing you to actually feel better and more refreshed for a lengthier period of time; not to mention tea kills bad breath, while coffee intensifies it.
Another thing I found fascinating is the extremely positive long-term effects tea has on our bodies. Tea has been proven to reduce cancer (gastric, esophageal, skin and ovarian), prevent blood clotting and heart disease and lower cholesterol. Is there anything tea can’t do?
Working here at derooted, I have tried to limit the amount of coffee I consume. In place, I drink tea. I truly believe in its endless benefits. Not to mention that it is drastically cheaper than purchasing coffee… good news when you are a student intern.
